An Oil Painting of the Thompson House by Lucille Power

The home, built in 1834 by William and Sallie Thompson, is the first permanent residence of a Caucasian family in Grundy County.   William Thompson served the citizens of the area as a medical doctor, a judge of the county court, a general of the Missouri Militia, a Brigadier General during the War of 1812, and as an elected legislator in Virginia before moving to Missouri

The Thompson House Today

One hundred and seventy years have taken their toll on the once stately Thompson House.  The house is now part of Crowder State Park.   Grundy County Historical Society and Museum board members continue to meet with state officials to encourage greater recognition of the importance of this county pioneer family and preservation of the home site.
